Janina A. Ciezadlo is an artist and critic in Chicago. She was a contributing writer for the New City, and her work has appeared in the Chicago Reader; Afterimage: The Journal of Media Arts and Cultural Criticism; Hyperallergic; Bridge; Artscope and the (former) Chicago Art Critic's Association publications. She is an elected member of Association Internationale des Critiques d' Art. Poems and photographs have appeared in afterhours, a journal of Chicago poetry and art, Hubbub and the Song Cave's Chapbook on Jack Sharpless.  She has participated in Armitage Arts' Night out in the ParksChicago Calling, The Printer's Ball and Bauhaus 9090 as a board member of Borderbend Arts Collective.  Her scholarly work has appeared in the Yearbook of Interdisciplinary Studies and the Proceedings of the Society for the Interdisciplinary Study of Social Imagery.
She has been a participant in an International Arts Journalism Institute in the Visual Arts sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the US Department of State (Cultural Programs), a resident at Ragdale and an Artist-in-Residence at Oxbow and the recipient of a Works-in-Progress grant from the Illinois Arts Council (for Luminous Herbarium).
Ciezadlo has served as President and Vice-President of her part-time faculty local and was the recipient of an award from the Chicago Women's Caucus for Art (2010) for art and contributions to women in the arts.
 
Ciezadlo holds an MFA in printmaking and an MA with departmental honors in comparative literature from Indiana University, Bloomington. She has been exhibiting prints, photographs, and paintings since 1976. Volume II of  Luminous Herbarium was shown at in the Fergusson Art Gallery of Concordia College in January 2015.  Luminous Herbarium, an installation of photographs, video and audio as well as Watercolors and Prints: Maison Des Cartes: House of Cards were shown at Gosia Koscielak Studio and Gallery in Wicker Park. Photographs from that installation appeared in 2008 at Oakton College's Kohneline Gallery's Feminist Ecology. Titles of other one-person exhibitions include Imaginary Archeology, Ariadne's Knowledge, The History of the Knot and Settings and Notations.
